Art, Drugs, and Community Intervention

Location:  Los Angeles, CA
Country:
United States
Project Description:

Working with the The Robert F. Kennedy Performance Project and continuing its powerful alliance with the LKLP Head Start Program, The Los Angeles Poverty Department works to address substance abuse in Skid Row by re-creating Robert Kennedy’s 1968 “war on poverty” tour in the course of a four-day, 200-mile series of events focused on historic and current issues and social policy. Head Start, along with UNITE and the Letcher County Action Team, is working with the project and LAPD (drawing on its experience with Agents and Assets) to develop regional discussions on art and rehabilitation, and to explore treatment alternatives to drug incarceration.
